Reading is a great way to see our own lives reflected back at us, but it’s also important to read about people who look or live differently than we do. This helps to create empathy and understanding.
For this challenge, teens in grades 6-12 are invited to read books that have been written by and about marginalized groups during the 2020-2021 school year. Track your reading in Beanstack and be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize.

If you have used Beanstack for a previous challenge, such as the Summer Reading Program, you do not need to create a new account. One of our hopes for this challenge is that it will encourage participants to build connections with each other. One way to do this is to sign up for our monthly Other Voices Book Club. Each month we will read a book written by or about one of the marginalized groups featured in this reading challenge, and we will discuss the book. You can complete the entire reading challenge by participating in the book club each month!
The Other Voices Book Club will meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 4:00 pm. We will be discussing each month’s book via Zoom. Please sign up each month for the book club, and be sure to provide your email address so that we can send you a link to the Zoom meeting.
