There are currently two openings for a Children’s Assistant II position in the Library. One is a permanent part-time position and the other is a temporary part-time position for the summer months.

Part-time Children’s Assistant II Position

The Youth Services Department at the Pewaukee Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, savvy, and flexible team player. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter experienced in working with children. The candidate should also have a thorough knowledge of children’s books, be comfortable using technology, be skilled at communicating with children and adults verbally and in print, and be excited about growing curiosity, creativity, and community.

The Pewaukee Public Library, located at 210 Main Street, serves both the City and Village of Pewaukee with a combined population of around 23,000. The Pewaukee Public Library is a member of the Bridges Library System.

Major responsibilities will include reference and reader’s advisory services, assisting with or presenting library programs, collection maintenance, and development of displays and book lists. This position will average 12 to 15 hours a week with some evening and Saturday hours, plus additional hours during our busy summer months. Flexibility is essential. Salary is $14.75 per hour, with an increase after six months of employment.

Two or more years of college required, degree preferred. Two or more years of experience in a public library or equivalent relevant experience required.

Temporary Part-time Children’s Assistant Position

The Pewaukee Public Library is seeking a friendly, energetic and creative team member who is comfortable working with children of all ages. Responsibilities will include helping with the Summer Library Program, answering questions at the Children’s Reference Desk, preparing crafts, recording reading club accomplishments, and helping to maintain the Children’s library and collection.

The Pewaukee Public Library, located at 210 Main Street, serves both the City and Village of Pewaukee with a combined population of around 23,000. The Pewaukee Public Library is a member of the Bridges Library System.

This position would be approximately 16 hours per week and the salary is $14.25 per hour. This position includes day and evening hours. Flexibility will be needed to help cover vacation hours. This position begins in late May and ends in late August.

Applicants for this position should have two or more years of college, a college degree is preferred. Also, two or more years of experience either working in a public library, working with children, or working in a customer service setting is required. Current MLIS students are encouraged to apply.
